Events
• Amos was a member of the Presbyterian Church 1102
• Amos Todd arrived in Homer in 1791 from Windsor, , New York, USA. "The first settlement of this town, and of Cortland County, was made in 1791, by Spencer Beebe and his brother-in-law, Amos Todd. They emigrated from New Haven, Conn., in 1789, and located at Windsor, Broome County. In the fall of 1791 they settled a little north of Homer Village. Mrs. Beebe was the only female who accompanied them. Their first residence was composed of poles and was twelve by fifteen feet. Previous to is completion their team strayed away and Messrs. Beebe and Todd both went in pursuit, leaving Mrs. B. alone for three days, with no protection but the four walls of their cabin, without roof or floor, and only a blanket fastened by forks for a door. Without, the howling wolf and screaming panther made nights hideous. During the following winter the husband and the brother of Mrs. Beebe again left her to return to Windsor for their goods, and were snow-bound for six weeks, during which time she was the sole occupant of her lonely cabin and the only human being within a circuit of thirty miles. Their goods were brought up the river in a boat. At Binghamton they were joined by John Miller, who assisted them in removing obstructions and propelling the boat. Where the water was too shallow for the boat it was drawn across by the oxen. Mr. Todd located on lot 42." 1250
• Amos Todd is sworn in as Homer Commissioner of Highways at the Town Meeting in 1797. 1101
• Homer Arrival: 823 "The first settlers in the town of Homer as they were also of the county, were Amos Todd and Joseph Beebe, the latter's wife Rhoda, and John Miller, whose experiences will be given a little farther on."

 Cause of Death:

Events
• Find-A-Grave: 52393321. 1798 From the History of Tompkins County, N.Y., c. 1879: "In the year 1816 a young itinerant, then traveling on the Cayuga circuit, in passing through the village of Dryden, felt strongly moved to dismount and pass from house to house, praying and exhorting the people to turn to God. He was urged to preach at the schoolhouse that evening. The request was complied with and another appointment left. Thus began Methodism in this village, and the youthful itinerant, Rev. Alvin Torrey, soon saw his labors blessed and succeeded in organizing a class. Henceforth the itinerant preached here regularly, sometimes in the schoolhouse, sometimes in capacious barns, and very often in the woods."

The following is from BRANT COUNTY, ONTARIO TOWNSHIP HISTORIES, Onondaga Township: "During the year 1822, the Methodist Missionary Society of the Methodist Church in Canada, seeing the necessity of looking to the spiritual welfare of the Indians, conceived the idea of establishing an Indian Mission for the Province, and appointed the Rev. Alvin Torrey as Missionary on the Grand River. His field of labour extended from the mouth of the river to above Brant's Ford, and he made one of his appointments at the Salt Springs in the "River Bend." His labour having been successful, and having secured the conversion and support of such Indian chiefs as James Givens, Jacob Isaac, John Dockstader and others, the mission became permanently established in this county. A society was soon formed, with Chief Givens as the Indian class leader. The next year, 1823, Mr. Torrey had as an assistant the Rev. Mr. Crawford, and built a log structure which was used for school purposes as well as a place of worship, until the year 1830, when what was known as the Salt Springs Mission Church was built. ..."

For an account of his life in his own words:
"Autobiography of Rev. Alvin Torry : first missionary to the Six Nations and the northwestern tribes of British North America" / edited by Wm. Hosmer. 1862."
